Moving can be one life's most stressful events. Interestingly, based on the famous 1967 study and follow-up studies of Dr. Thomas H. Holmes and Dr. Richard H. Rahe in which they developed the Social Readjustment Rating Scale, moving does not rank in the top most stressful life events. Here are the top 20 most stressful life events:

- 15. Major business readjustment
- 16. Major change in financial state
- 17. Death of a close friend
- 18. Changing to a different line of work
- 19. Change in frequency of arguments with spouse
- 20. Mortgage for loan or major purchase over $ 15,000
Looking over the list, it is easy to see why moving is a stressful activity. Most moves are caused by or involve several of the factors on this list.
